Is virtualisation an option?
Whilst everyone likes the thought of their “personal computer”, reality suggests that their device is far from individual and that the work undertaken on such a device is by no means taxing from a computational aspect. In such circumstance then a better more cost effective and efficient solution maybe the deployment of virtualised desktop environment.
By using virtualisation all users can have the same desktop experience but with a degree of control over the domain that IT departments craved for. Although such a deployment may look cost neutral against a similar conventional desktop installation, the cost of running and maintaining such an environment over a similar time period will realise significant savings from both an IT resource management and financial perspective.
